Raise Your Voice

Raise Your Voice is a university-wide sexual assault prevention and awareness campaign. Raising your voice shows that you value respect and healthy relationships for yourself, your fellow Terps, and others in all aspects of life. Make a personal commitment to help prevent sexual assault and sexual misconduct and be a part of the solution.
 

This website provides one easy-to-navigate source of information about university resources, services, policies, and other necessary information regarding sexual assault prevention and sexual misconduct. You'll also find links to pertinent resources from other relevant university offices.


TEAL Campaign - April 2024

This campaign is to raise awareness about SAPC efforts to educate the campus community about sexual assault prevention and resources. TEAL stands for Togetherness, Empowerment, Advocacy, and Learning. Each event in April will be geared towards a part of the TEAL campaign.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) 2024

Time: 3 PM to 5 PM

Hang out and craft with other members of the UMD community to kickoff Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) on campus. We will be engaging in several mindful crafts, including painting, coloring, keychain & bracelet making, and origami. Refreshments will be provided.

The Clothesline Project is a visual representation of the impacts of sexual and relationship violence on the campus community. This event provides community members with an opportunity to confront the issue of power-based violence by creating and displaying their own messages on a shirt during SAAM. Come see our T-shirts on display.

SMP will be hosting a film screening of the indie film Disfluency. Disfluency tells the story of Jane, a college student, who comes back home for summer after being sexually assaulted on campus. This film follows Jane’s healing journey and grappling with PTSD. SMP will be hosting this film screening alongside a Q&A session with the director of the film.

The Sexual Assault Prevention Committee will host a SAAM Resource Fair to promote campus services related to power-based violence prevention and response. Attendees can browse tables and meet with representatives from various organizations. Come grab some free SWAG and refreshments while learning about upcoming SAAM events!

Take Back the Night (TBTN) is a global event meant to uplift the voices of survivors of sexual assault and bring greater awareness to the community. This year, UMD's TBTN will focus on Drug Faciliated Sexual Assault. Attendees will have an opportunity to engage in educational activities and learn more about how to support survivors. We will have a raffle with proceeds going to the Victim Assistance Fund!

Enjoy coffee and donuts, and join in the discussion on the intersections between sexual assault and alcohol, including the impact of campus drinking culture on perceptions of violence and consent. Stop by as your schedule allows. All are welcome!

Preventing Sexual Assault (PSA) is a student-led organization working to combat campus sexual assault, educate the community about consent and bystander intervention, and to serve as a voice and a safe space for  survivors. Every year, PSA holds a 10-hour event at McKeldin Mall called “Occupy McKeldin” where we promote awareness of and prevention of sexual violence with an array of keynote speakers, workshops, and tables.

For the past 20 years, Denim Day has been used internationally to make a statement in support of survivors during SAAM. Show your support for survivors by wearing denim, and stop by our table at the Maryland Farmer’s Market to learn more, do a craft, and pick up some free swag. Can’t get over to Tawes Plaza? This workshop will explore what practicing self-care and self-love look like for students while recognizing how the 10 signs manifest in the relationship with one’s self. During this workshop we will explore self care strategies and activities through various art forms including painting, drawing, coloring, clay, etc.

The Sexual Assault Prevention Committee (SAPC) is a committee of stakeholders on campus who meet monthly. This section includes an overview of the sexual assault prevention plan, summary of activities, list of committee members and their office websites, and the contact information of the committee point person.

Athletics

Since 2005 alone, Maryland has won 19 national championships, including NCAA titles in women’s basketball, men’s soccer, men's lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, and field hockey. Since joining the Big Ten Conference in 2014, UMD has won a combined 32 regular season and tournament championships. Fear the Turtle!
